AKS concentrations are stressed at all grade levels:
Art History - Students learn about other times, other cultures, and the relationship of past to present. By observing the works of noted artists, students emulate or expand their knowledge of art and work toward their own artistic expression. |
Art Practice - Students participate in the application of problem solving, as they learn techniques and try out a variety of media, (such as paint, clay, papier mache, print making, pastel, drawing). Application of the elements, (line, shape, color, space, form, value, texture), and principles, (rhythm, variety, unity, proportion, balance, mvoement, emphasis), of design are practiced as the individuals express their personal ideas. |
Art Criticism - Students evaluate works of art, whether their own or someone elses, according to their experiences and knowledge of the elements and principles of design. They describe, analyze and interpret. |
Aesthetics - Students make judgements as they become involved or react in some way to a work of art. |
